Lead by obeying

Here’s some Zapatista art that presents the movement´s principles of leadership:

Obey, don’t order

Lower yourself, don’t elevate yourself

Suggest, don’t impose

Convince, don’t conquer

Represent, don’t replace

Serve, don’t take advantage

Construct, don’t destroy.

It’s an excellent list for authentically democratic relations between people and their representative. Basically: you are elected – to representa  group of people. They are the important ones, not you. This is especially refreshing in a world where most “leaders” seem to have only heard about the second part of the list.

The first image has the principles in embroidery. Here’s a painted version!
